Welcome to Costa Rica, a breathtakingly beautiful country in Central America. From rugged rainforests to sweeping coastlines and pristine beaches, this ecologically-friendly destination embraces the celebrated pure way of life – known as pura vida to the locals. Our eco-focused itinerary will allow you to head on your own jungle adventure and reconnect with Mother Nature, while travelling in a sustainable manner. Discover the majestic Arenal Volcano with a local volcanologist and relish lunch among the tropical plants at idyllic Else Kientzler Botanical Garden, as you make your way through this biodiverse country at a pace that suits you.

  1. Day 1

    Arrive to San Jose.

Welcome to San Jose, where a warm greeting and private hotel transfer await you at the airport. At 18:00, join your Travelling Concierge and fellow travelers for a Welcome Dinner with wine.

  2. Day 2 - Relaxed Start

Central Valley and Bajos del Toro.

You'll start your journey by heading to the outskirts of the Central Valley for some delicious coffee with the Arrieta family, as they share their local way of life on their coffee plantation. In Sarchí, savour an exclusive lunch among tropical plants and flowers at the Else Kientzler Botanical Garden. Gain insights into the working side of the flower industry, as you relax in a tranquil garden. After lunch, travel to the Bajos del Toro Cloud Forest for birdwatching and wildlife spotting with a Local Expert. You'll witness fascinating weather changes over Dinner with wine at the charming El Silencio Lodge.

  3. Day 3

    Arenal Volcano and La Fortuna.

Release your inner explorer with a guided mystic cloud forest hike in the morning. You'll trek around the base of the volcano and through the cloud forest trails and hidden paths that embrace nature’s elements. Head to La Fortuna before arriving at your unique hotel just outside the Arenal Volcano National Park. Enjoy a special dinner of Costa Rican cuisine and local wine, alongside the active volcano. You'll be joined by a volcanologist from the National University of Costa Rica, who will share fascinating insights into their work.

  4. Day 4

    Arenal Volcano National Park.

Rise early this morning to meet with a volcanologist from the National University of Costa Rica's Volcanological and Seismological Observatory. Learn of their research in the area and how the area has been transformed by volcanic activity. Later, join your Travelling Concierge for an adventure. Choose from zipping through the canopy treetops (WAIVER REQUIRED), enjoying a skywalk on a series of suspension bridges, joining a naturalist guide on an aerial gondola, or perhaps river-rafting on the controlled rapids of Piedras Negras River? Spend the rest of the day at leisure at the Tabacon Thermal pools and choose to dine here as well to extend your time in this tropical paradise.

  5. Day 5 - Relaxed Start

    Lake Arenal and Guanacaste.

Bid farewell to the mountains and continue your journey around Lake Arenal - the largest lake in Costa Rica. Descend to the Guanacaste plains and the resort beach destinations that the region is famous for. Enjoy lunch at the magnificent Hacienda La Pacifica, a local favourite famous for its mouthwatering tilapia and other seafood delicacies. Journey on to your beachside resort, a place that not only stimulates the senses but revitalizes spirits.

  6. Day 6

Guaitil and Palo Verde National Park.

Today you'll head to the village of Guaitil, in Diria District, a place known for its specialised traditional pottery. Once here you'll visit artisans using local clays and the same tools and techniques of their indigenous ancestors to create the region's famous pottery. Foodies rejoice, as you enjoy a cultural tasting of homemade rosquillas (a type of empanada) with your fellow travelers. Afterwards, journey on an open-boat along the Tempisque River, keeping your eyes peeled for local wildlife including crocodiles, macaws and howler monkeys. Spend the afternoon at your resort where you can make the most of its spa facilities, take a walk on the beach or take a dip in the pool. Toast to your Costa Rican journey at a Celebration Dinner with wine.

  7. Day 7

    Depart Guanacaste.

Enjoy a final breakfast with your new friends before your transfer to Liberia International Airport, where you'll connect with your onward flights. Alternatively, extend your holiday with additional nights at the hotel.

    TRIP:
    SERVICE:

Trip: The itinerary was very diverse and we were able to learn about Costa Rican culture. It was not touristy, but it would have been nice to be able to visit some on the small towns we passed through to do some local shopping for souvenirs. The only shopping available was at hotel gift shops which had prices triple what you would pay elsewhere.

Service: Hotels, guides, and daily activities were excellent. Guides were very knowledgeable and accommodating.
