Aloha Honolulu and Waikiki
You are greeted with a smile, a traditional flower lei and a transfer to your elegant oceanfront resort, celebrating its 90th anniversary. Your room offers fantastic views of Waikiki Beach and the ocean from your balcony. At 18:00, join your Travelling Concierge and fellow travellers for a Welcome Reception with a light Dinner. The Azure restaurant, adjacent to the famous Mai Tai bar, is known for its daily fresh seafood brought together by Chef Shaymus Alwin.
(Relaxed Start) After breakfast, take an exclusive guided tour of the Iolani Palace, the only official royal residence in the United States. Next, explore downtown Honolulu viewing the State Capitol, Washington Place and King Kamehameha Statue at Aliiolani Hale. Later, enjoy a scenic drive into the volcanic crater known as Punchbowl, home to the National Cemetery of the Pacific. A picturesque journey along the East Oahu shoreline gives views of Hanauma Bay and its crystal clear waters, the Halona Blowhole and the slopes of Diamond Head before returning to the hotel for the afternoon. As the sun sets over the Pacific enjoy dinner and entertainment from storytellers, musicians and dancers of the Aha'aina Luau.
Pearl Harbor and Leisure Time
(Relaxed Start) Begin the day at historic Pearl Harbor, home to the USS Arizona, honouring the military personnel killed in the 1941 surprise attack. Enjoy queue-jump with advanced reserved tickets. The afternoon is at leisure to perhaps be pampered at the spa, try your skills at surfing or visit the newly renovated International Market Place. This evening dine at award-winning Chef Roy Yamaguchi's acclaimed Hawaiian fusion restaurant, Roy's Waikiki, best known for his eclectic blend of California-French-Japanese traditions with fresh ingredients from the islands.
On to the Big Island
In the morning fly to the Big Island. Make your way to Kailua-Kona, once the capital of the Kingdom of Hawaii. Spend time exploring Kona, now home of the world-famous Ironman World Championship Triathlon. Next, discover the history of coffee at the Kona Coffee Living History Farm, and learn the story of the 1900's coffee pioneers. Travel along lava fields created by the volcanoes seen in the distance towards Kauna'oa Bay and to your hotel set on a white sand, crescent-shaped beach. Built by conservationist L. Rockefeller, the Mauna Kea was the most expensive hotel ever built at the time. The evening is at leisure, perhaps explore the hotel's extensive art collection boasting 1,600 pieces from the Pacific Rim, Polynesia and Asia.
Leisure Time and the Royal History of Hawaii
(Relaxed Start) The morning is yours to spend as you wish. Try your hand at a round of golf, lounge on the beach, read by the pool or take a helicopter flight above rainforests and active volcanoes. Later, travel to Hulihe'e Palace, former summer home of Hawaiian royalty, for a private, after-hours visit. Meet ‘Sunshine Chip', member of the Daughters of Hawaii – a group dedicated to the preservation of Hawaiian Royalty Heritage. Dinner is at Huggo's On the Rocks in Kona, a lively local restaurant.
Volcano National Park, Hilo to Maui
Continue to discover the beauty of the volcanic landscape, travelling through small villages en-route to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Walk where lava once flowed in the Thurston Lava Tube, view the world's largest volcano, Mauna Loa, and active volcano Kilauea from the caldera's rim. Visit the Jaggar Museum featuring exhibits of Pelehonuamea, The Hawaiian Diety of Volcanoes, before lunch at the Kilauea Lodge. Fly from Hilo to Maui, your home for the next three days.
(Relaxed Start) Maui offers many activities, which are included so the choice is yours. Perhaps a day of snorkelling off coral reefs, exploring under the waves with a submarine trip, taking a whale watching cruise (seasonal) or travelling the Road to Hana. Your Travelling Concierge will make all the arrangements. The evening is yours to enjoy at the resort.
Maui At Leisure
(Relaxed Start) Another day awaits to succumb to the pleasures of your resort. Relax and make it a spa day or soak up the warm tropical sunshine on the beach. Many options are available at the resort and your Travelling Concierge will assist in planning the perfect day. In the evening, join your fellow travellers at Humuhumunukunukuapua'a Restaurant for a Celebration Dinner featuring Maui's Chef of the Year, Michael Lofaro, famed for his inspired Polynesian and Hawaiian fare.
Say “A hui hou” as your 9-day tour concludes with a private transfer to Kahului Airport. Alternatively, guests opting for the 12-day tour depart for the lush garden isle of Kauai.
